The United States Vows an Major Aid Contribution, Issuing a Blunt Warning to United Nations.
In a move that pairs generosity with a clear warning, the United States has pledged $2 billion for UN emergency relief operations. Yet, this aid was accompanied by a direct warning for the global organization: it must "evolve or perish."
A Significant Announcement During Wider Funding Cuts
This commitment came amid substantial cuts in US support of humanitarian operations. Additional reductions are expected from other key donors including the UK and Germany. The US representative, a senior Trump administration figure, delivered the announcement together with the United Nations' top humanitarian official.
"These funds will help save countless lives," affirmed the UN's relief coordinator. Yet, this sum represents only a fraction of America's traditional spending, which were estimated at around $17 billion just a few years ago.

Additionally, the conditions prohibit spending on initiatives related to tackling global warming, which were described as not "essential for survival" and not in "the US interest."
