PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the net early on.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
