Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was found guilty of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under confinement pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after fresh information came to light.

This included attempting to break his tracking device and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the magistrate said intelligence from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the protest called by his child.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.

The senator wrote on digital networks on last Friday: Will you battle for your homeland, or observe everything from your phone there on your couch? I call on you to battle with us."

It was only on Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the Top Court to authorize him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with digital surveillance.

They also asked that the former president be permitted to exit his dwelling for medical care, saying he demanded ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other health problems.

Details of Guilty Verdict

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the national vote to his ideological adversary, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a scheme which encompassed plans to kill his opponent and his VP candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.

The justices found that the protesters had been provoked by the former president whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to step in, bring back stability and reinstate his authority.

At the time, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence extremely harsh.

He was also banned from running for public office until the year 2060 - eight years later after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was intended to stop him running in the 2026 presidential election.
