Per new allegations from a whistleblower, the convicted associate of Jeffrey Epstein, currently serving a 20-year prison term for trafficking offenses, is reportedly preparing a clemency request for consideration by the presidential administration.

Special Treatment Claimed at Correctional Facility

Congressional Democrats on the House judiciary committee announced that a whistleblower provided information indicating the inmate is preparing the commutation application. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the minimum-security facility in Texas.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the committee, stated in a news release that the facility's chief was assisting the convict with document preparation and submission to support her bid for executive mercy.

The exact content of the clemency request are unknown, the congressman noted.

Claimed Perks and Custom Arrangements

Raskin states that, according to the whistleblower, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are “personally delivered” to her living area, and the warden has “personally arranged” private meetings for her and her visitors.

These meetings reportedly involve a designated private space for visitors and a variety of food and drinks for her guests.

Maxwell’s visitors were also allowed to carry electronic devices, which the congressman characterized as an exceptional measure given the security risk and chance of unsupervised contact.

In one alleged instance, when phone lines went down for other inmates, she was given specific instructions about who she should tell her associates to call and how staff would relay the call to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The source also allegedly told congressional members that when Maxwell wanted to examine and modify papers “quickly”, she reportedly employed the warden as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The statement states that Maxwell’s correspondents would send files directly to the warden, who would hand them over to Maxwell, for her to examine and change and return them to the warden to scan and provide to the initial correspondent.

Extra Benefits Alleged

Other privileges reportedly provided to her include time to “play with” a service dog puppy – a perk not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the prison exercise area.

Maxwell’s attorney has not yet replied to a request for comment regarding the insider's allegations.

In a statement, the presidential office said that it “does not comment” on potential clemency requests.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has thought about,” the representative noted.

Context and Developments

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that she told close associates in emails from prison that she was “much happier” at the Texas facility than her former location.

In August, she was moved from a low-security prison in Florida's capital to the less restrictive prison in the state, where most detainees are serving time for financial and non-violent crimes.

The transfer, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just days after she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the senior justice official, Todd Blanche, who also once acted as Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the Trump administration was facing mounting pressure to disclose additional files related to the ongoing probe and amid intense speculation around the President's own personal ties to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Lawmaker Reactions

In the news release, the congressman also revealed that he had dispatched a communication to Trump, demanding answers about the insider's claims, and urged the chief executive to reject the clemency appeal.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any type of pardon to this adjudicated and remorseless criminal,” Raskin wrote in the letter. “The government must not offer her with personal amenities, with puppies to play with, with federal law enforcement officials waiting on her every need, or with any preferential handling or facility benefit at all.”

Raskin requested that Blanche appear for a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to Trump.

He inquired whether he had talked about a possible clemency for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had instructed Blanche or anyone else to arrange her with the transfer or favorable and preferential treatment in detention, and whether Maxwell, her attorneys, family or agents have made any promises to the President or his legal team.

Raskin has asked for a reply to the inquiries by 24 November.

In October, the US supreme court declined to hear an petition from the convict on her trafficking verdict.
